Gold being the terrestrial essence of the Sun, this sect of the Solar church views the sun disk as the archetype of the golden coin, and views Sol as the source of all wealth and good fortune. In this view, the Deonic Plague is simply weather, while the resultant economic difficulties are the true evidence of Sol’s displeasure. Those lacking wealth and good fortune have, depending on theological interpretation, either displeased Sol or are simply predestined to live outside his grace.
It is alternately believed that Sol does not withhold wealth as a sign of displeasure but rather sees its acquisition as a form of worship. In this aspect he is called Sol Pluto, and his adherents generally view the poor and unindustrious suspiciously, unless they are seen to be actively trying to elevate themselves economically. Sol Pluto is not officially recognized by the Temple of Gold as a legitimate aspect of Sol.
